## Synopsis

The Bay (2019-present) is a British crime drama series created by Daragh Carville and Richard Clark for ITV1. Family Liaison Officer DS Lisa Armstrong (Morven Christie) is assigned to the distraught parents of a pair of missing Morecambe twins, and her growing emotional involvement with the family threatens to compromise the investigation. Alongside her, DS Jenn Townsend (Marsha Thomason) and DI Tony Manning (Daniel Ryan) work the cases, while Stephen Marshbrook (Stephen Tompkinson) and Rose Marshbrook (Sharon Small) embody the raw grief at the heart of each storyline. The engine of the series is the tension between professional detachment and personal empathy, played out through interviews, police briefings, and the quiet domestic spaces where families wait for news. Each season is built around a fresh investigation in the coastal northwest English town, giving the show the shape of a serialized police procedural with recurring characters. Its tone is bleak, intimate, and emotionally harrowing, with a slow-burning dread that lingers. Fans of Happy Valley, Broadchurch and Line of Duty will find resonance in its grounded British crime storytelling and its focus on the human cost of investigation.
