## Synopsis

Mythomaniac (2019-2021) is a French dark comedy drama series created by Anne Berest for ARTE. Elvira, a burned-out working mother, suspects that her partner Patrick (Mathieu Demy) is cheating on her, and to win back his attention she invents a serious medical diagnosis. The engine of the series is the growing web of lies she must maintain while juggling family life, friends and neighbours who begin to treat her illness as real. Marina Hands leads the cast as Elvira, with Marie Drion, Jéremy Gillet and Zélie Rixhon among the principal players around her. Each episode is built from awkward domestic situations, escalating deceptions and sharp observations of middle class French life. The tone is cringe-inducing and wry, shifting between uncomfortable comedy and melancholy about neglect in a marriage. Fans of Fleabag, Desperate Housewives and Call My Agent! will find resonance in its bold female perspective and its mix of humiliation, sharp wit and marital unease.
