## Synopsis

Defending Jacob (2020) is a limited American crime miniseries created by Mark Bomback for Apple TV. Chris Evans plays Andy Barber, an assistant district attorney whose life is upended when his 14-year-old son Jacob (Jaeden Martell) is accused of murdering a classmate at his suburban high school. Michelle Dockery plays Laurie Barber, Andy's wife, whose trust in her husband and son is pushed to its breaking point as the case unfolds. Pablo Schreiber appears as a fellow parent drawn into the fallout, and J.K. Simmons plays Andy's father, whose history adds another layer of doubt. The engine of the eight-episode story is a father's relentless effort to protect his child while the evidence grows harder to explain, with each installment built around interviews, courtroom maneuvering, and quiet confrontations at the dinner table. The series unfolds as one continuous, carefully paced investigation rather than a case of the week. Its tone is tense, bleak and emotionally raw, carrying the unease of a community turning against one of its own. Set in contemporary American suburbs, it moves between school hallways, police interview rooms, and the family home. Fans of Big Little Lies, The Undoing and Mare of Easttown will find resonance in its blend of domestic drama and murder mystery.
