## Synopsis

The World Between Us (2019-2025) is a Taiwanese prestige drama created for PTS and HBO Asia, a two-season serialized series of ten hour-long episodes per season. Rather than chasing the shooting itself, the story lives in its aftermath, following a web of intertwined lives: the killer, the surviving victims, the bereaved families, journalists chasing the story, and the defense teams who must decide how to represent the accused. Alyssa Chia Ching-Wen plays Chiao-An Sung, and Vic Chou, James Wen, Simon Hsueh and Yang Kuei-mei anchor the principal threads, their characters pulled into a common orbit of grief, accusation and public judgment. The engine is simple and painful: each character wants something from a tragedy that cannot be undone, whether truth, vindication, forgiveness or simply a way to be heard, while the media and courtroom machinery push them toward easier answers. Episodes move between perspectives, letting each party's version collide with the others. The tone is sober, heavy and morally searching, with a documentary-leaning seriousness and an atmosphere of unresolved grief. Viewers who appreciate socially engaged ensemble dramas in the vein of The Wire and Big Little Lies will find resonance here, along with the ethical weight of Taiwanese television at its most serious.
