## Synopsis

Given (2019) is a Japanese animated slice of life romance series created for Fuji TV and produced by Lerche and Shinshokan. Its protagonist, Ritsuka Uenoyama (Yuma Uchida), has lost his spark for music until he hears the singing of Mafuyu Satou (Shogo Yano), and that voice pulls him back into making sound with others. The story follows their growing closeness alongside the other members of a small rock band, including Haruki Nakayama (Masatomo Nakazawa) and Akihiko Kaji (Takuya Eguchi), whose own feelings and histories complicate the group. Each episode moves through rehearsals, quiet conversations after school, and the fragile negotiations of friendship and desire within an urban Japanese high school. Told in a single eleven-episode season, the series is a gentle, aching study of longing, grief and the way music can open a person back up. Its tone is wistful and intimate, with melancholic undercurrents and moments of hopeful warmth. Fans of Bloom Into You, Your Lie in April and Sound! Euphonium will find real resonance in its tender emotional register and its focus on young people finding their voice.
