## Synopsis

How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? (2019) is a Japanese animated comedy series created for AT-X, adapted from a manga and produced by Doga Kobo. Hibiki Sakura, a young woman whose love of food is beginning to show on her body, works up the nerve to join her local gym, where the training feels intimidating. After she meets her handsome personal trainer Machio (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa), she commits to a quest for a fitter physique. Hibiki is voiced by Fairouz Ai, and the supporting cast includes Sora Amamiya as Akemi Soryuin, Shizuka Ishigami as Ayaka Uehara, and Nao Toyama as Gina Boyd. The engine of each episode is simple: a small workout goal, a new fear at the gym, and a mix of self-deprecating humor and encouragement. Its single season of twelve episodes runs about twenty-four minutes each. The tone is light and breezy, with gentle comedy and warm slice of life moments, much like the self-improvement comedies of Yuru Camp and the playful character work of Nichijou. Fans of gym-set anime and fitness comedies will find the premise easy to settle into, with a bright, cheerful register throughout.
