## Synopsis

Cop Craft (2019) is a Japanese animated buddy police action series created by Shin Itagaki, a single-season run of twelve episodes of roughly twenty-three minutes each. Detective Kei Matoba (voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda) of the San Teresa City Police is paired with Tilarna Exedilika (voiced by Mayu Yoshioka), a knight from the alternate world of Reto Semaani, after an incident erupts when their worlds collide. The engine of the show is their uneasy partnership: two officers who differ in gender, temperament and the justice they were raised to uphold, and who must learn each other's world to chase drug dealers, prostitution rings and weapon traffickers in a city where more than two million immigrants from both worlds crowd the streets. Each case is a self-contained action outing that builds toward the wider story of a hyperspace gate that opened fifteen years earlier over the Pacific. The setting is a near-present metropolis divided between haves and have-nots, with fairies and monsters living among its population. The tone is brisk and kinetic, with gritty crime, edge-of-the-seat suspense and flashes of graphic violence balanced by a buddy-comedy rapport between the leads. Fans of Cowboy Bebop and Alien Nation will find resonance in its cross-cultural partnership and genre-blending street action.
