Critics broadly find Servant a well-acted, unsettling slow-burn psychological horror whose atmosphere and lead performances carry it, though its momentum sags in later seasons.

## Synopsis

Servant is an American psychological horror series created by Tony Basgallop for Apple TV, set in Philadelphia and airing from 2019 to 2023. It follows Dorothy and Sean Turner, a couple grieving an unspeakable loss that has splintered their marriage and left their home vulnerable. Their carefully ordered household is unsettled after they hire Leanne, a nanny whose calm competence hides something unnatural, and the family's grip on reality begins to loosen. The series works as one continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format, letting dread build in long, patient scenes. Its tone is cold, intimate and unnerving, with grief and faith woven through the unease. Atmosphere matters more than jump scares, and the mystery unfolds through half-glimpsed behavior, quiet rituals and small domestic details. Fans of restrained supernatural suspense and slow-burn domestic unease will find much to chew on, though the pace can feel deliberate.
