## Synopsis

The Victim (2019) is a Scottish crime drama limited series created by Rob Williams for BBC One. Anna Dean (Kelly Macdonald), a grieving mother in Glasgow, publicly identifies online the man she believes killed her son, and the four-episode story turns on whether he is a notorious child murderer or a victim of mistaken identity. Detective Inspector Steven Grover (John Hannah) leads the police response, while Craig Myers (James Harkness) finds his life upended by the accusation. Each episode tightens the pressure on Anna's family, her marriage and the legal process as public outrage gathers pace. The engine is simple and painful: a parent's need for certainty pitted against due process and the fragility of a rumor spreading faster than facts. Told in a compact, single-season run, the series moves briskly through interrogation rooms, courtrooms and tense domestic scenes. Its tone is harrowing and morally uneasy, carrying the grief and dread of a community divided. Fans of Broadchurch, The Missing and other British crime dramas about bereavement and justice will find the same emotional weight and ambiguity here.
