## Synopsis

Back Street Girls: Gokudols (2019) is a Japanese crime comedy miniseries created for MBS and TBS, adapted from a manga. Three yakuza underlings, sentenced to repay their failures, undergo major plastic surgery and emerge as a hot female idol trio. The engine of the story is the collision between brutal gangland retribution and the glossy, manufactured world of pop stardom, as the former enforcers struggle to master choreography, cameras and fan expectations while their old bosses still expect results. Each of the six 24-minute episodes mixes slapstick mishaps with flashes of underworld menace, so the tone stays breezy and gleefully irreverent while the gangster violence keeps a sharp edge. The cast is led by Jin Shirasu, Reiya Masaki, Masato Hanazawa, Natsumi Okamoto, Ruka Matsuda and Akane Sakanoue. Set in contemporary Japan, it is a single-season, six-episode story with a self-contained arc. Fans of Gokudo Taro and Sakamoto Days will find resonance in its mix of criminal grit and absurd comedy.
