## Synopsis

Mental (2009) is a American network psychiatric drama created by Deborah Joy LeVine for FOX, a single-season limited run of thirteen hour-long episodes. Chris Vance plays Jack Gallagher, a psychiatrist who treats patients with methods his superiors view as risky, while Annabella Sciorra plays Nora Skoff and Nicholas Gonzalez plays Arturo Suarez, colleagues whose own professional stakes tangle with his. The engine of the series is the tension between a clinician's instinct to try unconventional treatments and a conservative hospital boss who insists on caution, so each episode tends to pair a single patient's crisis with a fight over how far the staff can go. Set in a present-day American psychiatric hospital, the show plays as a character-driven workplace drama with a measured, earnest tone, leaning on the ethical weight of treating troubled minds rather than on spectacle. Its procedural rhythm and hospital setting give it the feel of a medical drama, with a serious but humane register. Viewers who enjoy In Treatment for its intimate therapy scenes and House for its clash between a maverick doctor and a rigid administration will find familiar ground here.
