## Synopsis

Away (2020) is an American space drama series created by Andrew Hinderaker for Netflix. Hilary Swank stars as astronaut Emma Green, who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind to command an international crew on a treacherous mission to Mars. Her husband Matt Logan is played by Josh Charles and her daughter Alexis Logan by Talitha Eliana Bateman, and their strained bonds across distance give the show its emotional pull. The engine of each episode is the daily pressure of keeping a multinational crew functioning while the spacecraft faces mounting danger and isolation far from home. Cast members Mark Ivanir, Ray Panthaki, Vivian Wu and Ato Essandoh fill out the crew, and their rivalries and bonds drive the tension. The series runs as one ten-episode season with a serialized, continuing story. Its tone is hopeful and earnest, tinged with loneliness and quiet melancholy, and its themes center on humanity and cooperation. Fans of For All Mankind, The Expanse and Stargate Atlantis will find resonance in its space exploration, crew dynamics and sense of family separation.
