## Synopsis

Deputy (2020) is a US crime western series created by Will Beall for FOX, a limited run of thirteen hour-long episodes that was canceled after one season. Stephen Dorff plays Bill Hollister, a fifth-generation lawman who would rather chase down bad guys than navigate the political maze of the badge he unexpectedly inherits. When the Los Angeles County sheriff dies, an arcane rule forged back in the Wild West hands the office to this unlikely man, and he becomes determined to see justice served regardless of the politics around him. Yara Martinez plays Paula Reyes, one of the deputies and colleagues whose loyalties and ambitions shape his work, while Brian Van Holt and Mark Moses fill out the ensemble of rivals and allies. Each episode mixes the procedural pull of a case with the larger question of how an old frontier code fits a sprawling modern county. The tone is gritty and hard-edged, carried by sun-bleached Los Angeles streets and a rough, rugged swagger. Fans of Justified and Longmire will find resonance in its blend of rural-style lawman grit and urban crime, with a dash of the classic Western ethos.
