## Synopsis

1994 (2019) is a Mexican documentary miniseries created by Diego Enrique Osorno and produced by VICE Media, distributed on Netflix. Across five episodes of roughly fifty minutes each, it assembles archival video and new interviews to examine a single turbulent year in Mexican politics. Rather than following a fictional protagonist, the series is built around the public figures who shaped the moment, among them Carlos Salinas de Gortari, Ernesto Zedillo, Diego Fernández de Cevallos and Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, alongside the presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio, whose footage anchors much of the story. The engine is the investigation itself: piecing together how the rise of the Zapatista rebellion and the assassination of Colosio exposed the strains within the ruling establishment. Each episode unpacks a thread of the year through testimony, news footage and reflection, giving the material a sober, grounded weight. The tone is somber and probing, with a sense of unease about power and its opacity. Viewers drawn to political documentaries in the vein of The Thin Blue Line and The Vow, or to Ayotzinapa: Los 43's examination of state accountability, will find a close, serious account of recent Latin American history.
