## Synopsis

Hierro (2019-2021) is a Spanish crime drama series created by Pepe Coira for Movistar Plus. Candela Peña plays Candela Díaz, an experienced judge who arrives on El Hierro, the most remote island of the Canary Archipelago, to take charge of a murder investigation in a close-knit community where nobody comes or goes unnoticed. Darío Grandinetti plays Antonio Díaz, a shady local businessman who looks like the obvious suspect yet is determined to prove his innocence. The engine of the show is a rival hunt for the killer: she works to do her job well while he works to clear his name, and each episode peels back the island's tight traditions and buried secrets. Across two seasons totaling fourteen episodes, the story stays one continuing investigation rather than a case of the week. The volcanic landscape gives the series an austere, brooding atmosphere, with a slow, tense, character-driven pace. Its tone is somber and claustrophobic, with the feel of Nordic noir transplanted to Spain. Fans of Broadchurch, Top of the Lake and The Killing will find resonance in its patient mystery and its moody sense of place.
