## Synopsis

What Did You Eat Yesterday? (2019-2023) is a Japanese television slice of life comedy-drama created by Fumi Yoshinaga for TV Tokyo, adapted from her manga. Hidetoshi Nishijima plays Shiro Kakei, a meticulous lawyer who pours his heart into home-cooked meals for his partner, hairstylist Kenji Yabuki, played by Seiyo Uchino. The engine of the show is domestic: Shiro plans each week's menu, shops for ingredients, and cooks recipes that anchor each episode, while the couple handles workplace friction, friends, and family expectations. Hayato Isomura, Misako Tanaka, and Meiko Kaji round out a cast of colleagues, relatives, and friends who drop in with their own small dilemmas. The series runs two seasons of twelve episodes each, with a gentle, unhurried rhythm that treats ordinary routines with warmth and wit. Its tone is cozy, wistful, and honest about aging, loneliness, and belonging, and it treats a middle-aged gay relationship as simply part of a life. Viewers who enjoy Midnight Diner, Samurai Gourmet, or the quieter romance of Tokyo Love Story will find the same comfort in food and conversation.
