## Synopsis

The Planets (2019) is a British science documentary miniseries presented by Professor Brian Cox and broadcast on BBC Two. Across five hour-long episodes, Cox acts as the affable guide through the solar system, traveling from the scorched inner worlds to the distant gas and ice giants. Rather than a dry catalogue of facts, each episode treats the planets as dramatic characters with turbulent, violent and often surprising histories, and Cox explains the physics behind their storms, moons, atmospheres and orbits in plain, enthusiastic language. The engine of the series is curiosity: each hour poses a question about why a world looks and behaves as it does, then answers it with sweeping location and space imagery and clear demonstrations. The result is a single, self-contained season that rewards casual viewers and dedicated astronomy fans alike. Its tone is awe-filled and warm, with a sense of cosmic wonder that rarely tips into melodrama. Fans of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, Planet Earth and The Sky at Night will find much of the same pleasure in patient, visually rich science storytelling.
