## Synopsis

Monzón: A Knockout Blow (2019) is an Argentinian true-life sports drama miniseries created by Pablo E. Bossi for Space. Its protagonist is the boxing champion Carlos Monzón, played by Jorge Román, with Mauricio Paniagua playing the younger Monzón. The engine of the story is a fighter's rise through the ring and the personal costs that follow him, with his relationships to figures such as his partner Alicia Muñiz (Carla Quevedo) and his manager Gustavo Parisi (Diego Cremonesi) shaping the drama. The thirteen-episode limited series moves between his career and his life behind bars, so each episode layers fight sequences against quieter, more confined scenes. Its setting is Argentina in the decades of its boxing fame, with the grit of the sport and the stifling atmosphere of incarceration giving the tone a bleak, melancholic weight. Fans of Raging Bull and I, Tonya will find resonance in its portrait of a celebrated athlete undone by his own volatility, and viewers drawn to Latin American true-crime biographies will find a familiar, sober register here.
