## Synopsis

The Longest Day in Chang'an (2019) is a Chinese historical mystery and action series created by Ma Boyong for Youku. Set in the Tang dynasty imperial capital of Chang'an, the city of Eternal Peace, it follows a notorious criminal who is pulled into a race against a mysterious army poised to launch a devastating attack within twenty-four hours. Lei Jiayin plays Zhang Xiaojing, and Jackson Yee plays Li Bi, with Zhou Yiwei and Djimon Hounsou in principal supporting roles. Its engine is a ticking clock: while nobles panic and flee, the protagonist must navigate crowded markets, sealed wards and political rivals, uncovering conspiracies hidden within the city's power structure. Each episode advances the countdown, mixing investigation with fast martial combat and the tension of a city under siege. The series runs as a single serialized story across 48 episodes of roughly 45 minutes each, pairing a propulsive mystery with courtly intrigue and a sense of imperial grandeur. Its tone is tense and breathless, carried by spectacle and a redemptive arc. Fans of 24, Story of Yanxi Palace and Detective Dee will find resonance here.
