## What critics say

Viewers broadly consider Beastars a mature, character-driven anime that uses its anthropomorphic school setting to explore predation, desire and prejudice, with a strong romance-to-thriller arc.

## Synopsis

Beastars (2019-2026) is a Japanese anime series produced by Orange and aired on Fuji TV and Netflix, a three-season serialized drama set at a high school where beasts of every kind coexist. Its protagonist is Legoshi, a gentle wolf voiced by Chikahiro Kobayashi, whose quiet bond with the herbivore Louis (Yuki Ono) and the tangled attraction he feels toward the alpaca Cat (Sayaka Senbongi) pull him toward the question of what his own predatory instincts might mean. When a murder shakes the school, Legoshi is drawn into an investigation that forces him to confront prejudice, class divides and the fragile truce between carnivores and herbivores. The engine of the series is a slow-burning mystery threaded through romance and school politics, with each season building tension through confrontations, secrets and moral compromise. Its tone blends slice of life intimacy with thriller dread, grounded in the textures of a school cafeteria, drama club and the underground black market that feeds on the campus. Its unflinching portrayal of desire and survival gives it a mature, unsettling register. Fans of Zootopia, 13 Reasons Why and Mob Psycho 100 will find resonance in its blend of animal allegory, teenage drama and crime investigation.
