## Synopsis

The Naked Director (2019-2021) is a Japanese biographical comedy-drama series created for Netflix, an 8-episode-per-season run across two seasons with sixteen episodes in total. Takayuki Yamada plays Tooru Muranishi, a notorious adult video director whose ambition drives him from scrappy beginnings toward an unlikely industry empire, while Shinnosuke Mitsushima plays his loyal associate Toshi Arai and Misato Morita plays Megumi Sahara. Their story unfolds in a grimy Tokyo nightclub world tangled with yakuza interests and the money of the bubble economy. Each episode is built from the practical headaches of filmmaking: casting disputes, shady backers, censorship worries and the constant pressure of cheap production schedules. Set in the 1980s Shōwa era, the series embraces a cheeky, irreverent tone while treating its protagonist's artistic vision with surprising sincerity. Based on a true story, it is a bold, frank portrait of creative defiance and social disapproval. Fans of Boogie Nights and Tokyo Vice will find resonance in its blend of period texture, provocative subject matter and comic energy. Its adult themes are handled with candor, making it a show for mature viewers who enjoy irreverent biopics.
