## Synopsis

Hell's Kitchen (2004-2009) is a British cookery reality competition created for ITV1 and broadcast over four series. Prospective chefs compete against one another in a run of kitchen trials, with the final prize going to whoever survives the elimination rounds. The format is built around the exacting head chefs who judge and coach the contestants, among them Gordon Ramsay, Gary Rhodes, Jean-Christophe Novelli and Marco Pierre White. Presenting duties were handled by Angus Deayton for three series and then by Claudia Winkleman for the final run. Each episode runs about ninety minutes and moves briskly from service pressure to the next cull, giving the show a tense, competitive atmosphere. Its tone is brisk and sharp-tongued rather than cosy, with the kitchen itself serving as the arena for ambition and humiliation. Fans of MasterChef, the original Hell's Kitchen and The Great British Bake Off will find the same appetite for culinary rivalry and watchable personalities.
