## Synopsis

Blind Date (2019) is a Mexican telenovela-style comedy series created by Andrés Burgos for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Vlogger Lucía González Fuentes (Sofía Garza) lives under the constant scrutiny of her mother Maura Fuentes de Salazar (Victoria Ruffo), who bets that Lucía will show up alone and heavier than ever to her sister's wedding. Lucía has 258 days to lose weight, reshape her image and find a boyfriend, and the wager goes viral as she streams the outcome of each blind date to her followers. Gonzalo Peña plays Marcelo Herrera Toscano, one of the romantic prospects, while Arturo Peniche and Okairy Giner fill out the family orbit. The engine is a steady run of awkward encounters, family interference and online commentary, with each episode built around a new date. Across seventy episodes the series balances broad slapstick and soap melodrama with a lighter, warm sense of self-acceptance. Its tone is breezy, sardonic and sincere, and its theme of appearance pressure and the hunger for approval sits close to the surface. Fans of Ugly Betty, Yo soy Betty, la fea and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will find resonance here, especially those who enjoy a romantic farce driven by family pressure and social media exposure.
