## Synopsis

Beforeigners (2019-2022) is a Norwegian science fiction crime series created by Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin for HBO Nordic and HBO Max. Burned-out police officer Lars Haaland (Nicolai Cleve Broch) is paired with Alfhildr Enginsdottir (Krista Kosonen), a woman from the Viking Age, after a murder involving a so-called beforeigner. Their partnership is the engine of the show: he wants to close a case and get back his footing, she wants to understand a world that makes no sense to her, and both keep running into a larger conspiracy behind the mass arrivals of people from the Stone Age, the Viking era and the late nineteenth century. Each season moves through investigations on cold Oslo streets, with interrogations, informants and dangerous corners of the city shaping the story. The tone is moody, grounded and brooding, with social undercurrents about migration and addiction running beneath the mystery. Fans of Nordic noir and time travel stories such as Fortitude and Dark will find resonance here. The show ran for two seasons of six episodes each and was canceled before its central mystery was resolved, leaving the arc open.
