## Synopsis

Hell Girl (2006-2007) is a Japanese live-action supernatural mystery series created for Nippon Television, adapted from the manga of the same name. Enma Ai (Sayuri Iwata), a girl who acts as an agent of hell, answers grudges posted to a rumored midnight website called the Jigoku Tsushin, and sends the hated to eternal punishment. Hone Onna (Aya Sugimoto) and Ichimoku Ren (Kazuki Kato) are among the figures who keep the cycle of vengeance tense, while Wanyuudou (Hisahiro Ogura) hovers as a menacing presence. The engine of the series is the case-of-the-week structure: each episode follows a different client whose hatred draws them toward the site, and the story explores what the requester gains and loses. Across a single twelve-episode season, the show builds a sense of dread around a midnight rumor that feels real. Its tone is dark, eerie and melancholic, with a folkloric atmosphere rooted in contemporary Japan. Fans of Mononoke and Hellsing Ultimate will find resonance in its supernatural menace, and viewers of Black Mirror will recognise its interest in the cost of hatred.
