## Synopsis

Joint Venture (2019-2022) is a Brazilian crime drama series created by Cauê Laratta, Marcelo Starobinas, Chico Mattoso and Mariana Trench Bastos for HBO Brasil. Set in a fictional modern-day Sao Paulo after marijuana has been legalized, it follows Biriba (Luis Navarro), a 29-year-old dealer who decides to abandon his criminal life and move into the legal cannabis trade. His friend Vini (Daniel Furlan) and Kelly (Leilah Moreno) are among the principal figures tangled in his old world and his new ambitions, and Buiú (Gabriel Salazar) represents the underworld pulling at him. Across two seasons of ten episodes each, the engine is simple and concrete: a man with a dealer's contacts, instincts and debts tries to build a clean business while old suppliers, rivals and loyalties keep returning to the door. Each episode moves through deals, shop counters, back rooms and street corners, with the tension coming from every compromise he has to make. The tone is gritty and street-level, shaded with dark humour and a wary sense that the past never really leaves. Fans of Narcos, City of God and Breaking Bad will find resonance in its portrait of a criminal fighting to go straight.
