## Synopsis

Only Connect (2008-present) is a British national-television quiz show created for BBC Four and BBC Two, hosted throughout by Victoria Coren Mitchell. Two teams of three contestants face a fiendishly difficult format in which a run of seemingly unrelated clues must be linked by a single hidden connection. The engine of each episode is the slow, sometimes maddening pursuit of that link: contestants gather scraps of trivia, weigh competing readings, and decide when to commit, with patience and lateral thinking counting as much as stored knowledge. The show runs across twenty-two seasons and several hundred episodes, each a half-hour studio game built on the same steady structure rather than a continuing story. Its tone is cerebral and playful, with a dry, gently wry host guiding the teams through the puzzles. Its register sits closer to the intellectual end of television than to flashy entertainment. Viewers who enjoy University Challenge, Pointless and Mastermind will recognise the appeal of a quiz built on deduction and wordplay. The show suits anyone who likes testing their own brain alongside the players, and it rewards close attention on each episode.
