## Synopsis

Big Steps (2019-2020) is a Colombian national-television telenovela-style drama series created by Juan Andrés Granados for Caracol TV. Loosely drawn from the life of Luis Eduardo Diaz, a controversial bootblack, the story follows Lucho Díaz (Enrique Carriazo), who begins with almost nothing and rises after winning an election for an important political post in his city. Enrique Carriazo anchors the series alongside Verónica Orozco as Gloria Vargas, with Edgardo Román as Gonzalo Díaz and Juliana Velásquez as Leidy Díaz Vargas filling out the family circle. The engine is simple and emotional: a determined man wants to claw his way out of poverty, while rivals, family pressures and the rough politics of a Colombian city push back at every turn. Carriazo's ambition meets the messy demands of loyalty and reputation. Set in contemporary Colombian city life, the series unfolds across a single long serialized run of eighty-three episodes, each one stacking domestic drama, courtship, and municipal intrigue. Its tone is warm, sentimental and hopeful, with a touch of comic bravado, and its themes center on dignity, class mobility and family loyalty. Viewers who enjoy Betty la fea and other Latin American melodramas with underdog heroes will find familiar pleasures here, along with the sense of a real life transformed into popular television.
