## Synopsis

Deca-dence (2020) is a Japanese animated science fiction series produced by the studio NUT and broadcast on AT-X. Set in a far-future world where humanity survives inside a 3000-meter-high mobile fortress that rolls across a land overrun by the Gadoll, a species of monstrous unknown life forms, the series follows Natsume, an optimistic Tanker girl who dreams of becoming a Gear warrior, and Kaburagi, a surly armor repairman who has given up on his own dreams. Natsume is voiced by Tomori Kusunoki and Kaburagi by Katsuyuki Konishi, with Mei Shibata as Fei, Eiji Takeuchi as Fennel and Yoshino Aoyama as Linmei rounding out the principal cast. Across a single twelve-episode season, the engine is simple and urgent: the fortress's Gears fight monsters daily while Tankers keep the machinery running, and the friction between the hopeful girl and the jaded mechanic pushes both toward a changed future. The look is grimy steampunk retrofuturism, all rivets, cannons and hulking monsters, and the mood alternates between grim survival and scrappy optimism. Fans of Attack on Titan and Mobile Suit Gundam will find resonance in its dystopian stronghold and machine-driven action, and the series rewards viewers who enjoy original, experimental anime storytelling.
