## Synopsis

Caliphate (2020) is a Swedish national-television thriller miniseries created by Niklas Rockström and Wilhelm Berhman for SVT1 and Netflix. Its single eight-episode season follows National Security agent Fatima Zukic (Aliette Opheim), who receives a tip that a terrorist attack against Sweden is being planned, and a Stockholm schoolgirl named Sulle (Nora Rios), who grows fascinated by her student assistant and the new world he opens for her. Other principal figures include Pervin (Gizem Erdogan), Husam (Amed Bozan) and Nadir (Arvin Kananian), whose lives are caught in the same web. The engine of the story is a race against time: Fatima must trace an unseen plot through surveillance, interviews and informants while the young women drift deeper into a seductive and destructive religious movement. Episodes alternate between the security investigation and the recruitment process in ordinary Stockholm neighbourhoods, building a tense, dread-filled atmosphere. Its intermingled storylines give it a grounded, serious register, and the tone stays claustrophobic and morally weighted. Fans of Homeland, Hunted and Borgen will find resonance in its blend of state security procedure, political unease and intimate portraits of radicalization. Its tight single-season shape makes it a focused, self-contained viewing experience.
