## Synopsis

Marianne (2019) is a French supernatural horror series created by Samuel Bodin for Netflix. Bestselling novelist Emma (Victoire du Bois) discovers that the terrifying nightmares she turns into books are beginning to come true, and she returns to her hometown on the French coast to face the people and secrets she left behind. Her old friend Camille (Lucie Boujenah) and others from her teenage years, along with a police investigator (Alban Lenoir), become entangled in the growing supernatural threat, and an ancient witch seems to be haunting the town. The engine of the story is Emma's effort to undo the damage of her youthful mistakes while her own work seems to be summoning the evil around her. The eight-episode season moves through unsettling haunting set pieces, red and green lit scenes, and a mystery that deepens with each episode. Fans of The Haunting of Hill House and other eerie, slow burn supernatural horror will find the atmosphere and dread familiar. The series is a single season of eight episodes, ending on an unresolved note that suggests the nightmares are not finished.
