## Synopsis

Bauhaus: A New Era (2019) is a German historical drama miniseries created by Lars Kraume for ZDF and ARTE. Set in postwar Weimar in 1919, it follows young art student Dörte Helm (Anna Maria Mühe) as she joins the newly founded Bauhaus school at the invitation of its visionary founder Walter Gropius (August Diehl). Their developing love story becomes fuel for a scandal that threatens the very existence of the school, a modernist experiment that would reshape twentieth century art and design. Around them, principal figures such as Stine Branderup (Trine Dyrholm), Gunta Stölzl (Valerie Pachner) and Marcel Breuer (Ludwig Trepte) navigate the cramped workshops, rivalries and political pressures of the early republic. Across six roughly forty-five minute episodes, the drama moves at a measured pace, balancing intimate romantic tension with the broader question of whether radical artistic ideals can survive public judgment. The tone is earnest and atmospheric, with a melancholic sense of a fragile new era. Viewers who enjoy Babylon Berlin and the period intrigue of The Crown will find a similar appeal in its blend of historical texture and personal drama.
