## What critics say

Reviewers and viewers found the adaptation of Huxley's novel visually striking but a loose, popcorn-style reworking that departs sharply from the source.

## Synopsis

Brave New World (2020) is an American science fiction drama series created by David Wiener, Grant Morrison and Brian Taylor for Peacock, adapted from the Aldous Huxley novel. Set in a sleek, sterile future utopia, the story follows members of a regimented collective whose perfection rests on strict control of monogamy, privacy and desire. Harry Lloyd plays Bernard Marx, a dissatisfied citizen who begins to question the rules, while Jessica Brown Findlay plays Lenina Crowne, a conformist drawn toward something forbidden. Alden Ehrenreich appears as John the Savage, an outsider whose arrival unsettles the order. Kylie Bunbury and Nina Sosanya round out the principal cast. The single season of nine episodes is a continuing serialized drama in which each episode tightens the pressure of surveillance, engineered pleasure and emerging rebellion. Its tone is sleek and unsettling, with a cool, polished surface hiding dread and longing. Fans of The Handmaid's Tale and Westworld will find resonance in its portrait of a controlled society confronting private desire.
