## Synopsis

Breeders (2020-2023) is a British-set comedy series created by Simon Blackwell for FX, a four-season sitcom spanning forty episodes. Martin Freeman stars as Paul Worsley, a harried father, opposite Daisy Haggard as his wife Ally Grant, and the pair's children Ava and Luke, played by Eve Prenelle and Alex Eastwood among others, drive the household chaos. Paul and Ally love their children fiercely yet are often apoplectically angry with them, and that contradiction is the engine of each episode: a school run, a parents' evening, a holiday or a small domestic crisis that escalates into marital sniping and private humiliation. The show's comic deadpan is sharp and unsentimental, its tone wry, cringing and warmly exasperated rather than saccharine. Episodes are self-contained domestic vignettes that accumulate into a continuing portrait of a marriage under strain. The setting is contemporary suburban London, and the gap between the glossy parenting image projected online and the messy private reality is a recurring satirical target. Fans of Motherland, Catastrophe and Parenthood will find resonance in its honest, exhausted comedy of family life.
