## Synopsis

Monarca (2019-2021) is a Mexican national-television family drama series created by Diego Gutierrez for Netflix. Irene Azuela stars as Ana María Carranza, who returns to Mexico after twenty years away and vies for control of her family's tequila empire against her siblings, Juan Manuel Bernal as Joaquín Carranza and Osvaldo Benavides as Andrés Carranza, while Rosa María Bianchi plays their mother Cecilia Carranza. The engine of the series is a power struggle over a business that threatens to crumble under corruption, buried secrets and shifting loyalties, with each episode pulling another family member deeper into the dealings that hold the empire together. Told across two seasons and eighteen hour-long episodes, it is a serialized story in which order matters and the stakes escalate steadily. Set in present-day Mexico, the drama unfolds among agave fields, boardrooms and family estates, with a dark, tense and melodramatic tone. Its mix of sibling rivalry, inheritance and moral compromise will appeal to fans of Succession and Ozark, as well as viewers drawn to Mexican prestige television and telenovela-inflected family sagas. The series was canceled after its second season, leaving its central conflict open.
