## Synopsis

Wuthering Heights (2009) is a British two-part period drama miniseries created by Coky Giedroyc and produced by Mammoth Screen for ITV1. Tom Hardy stars as Heathcliff, a penniless orphan taken into the wealthy Earnshaw household, who falls for his foster sister Catherine Earnshaw, played by Charlotte Riley. When Catherine, pressured by social convention, marries the genteel Edgar Linton, played by Andrew Lincoln, Heathcliff vows to win her back and his quest becomes a slow, consuming campaign of obsession and revenge. Sarah Lancashire appears as the household servant Nelly Dean, a watchful witness to the damage. The story unfolds across two long episodes of roughly 142 minutes each, a single continuing narrative where every scene tightens the emotional knot. Set in nineteenth century northern England, among the bleak moors and drafty manor houses of Yorkshire, it carries a gothic, melancholic and feverish atmosphere, with passion that feels elemental and dangerous. Its tone is intense and romantic, with themes of class, social constraint and vengeance at the core. Fans of the 1992 film adaptation of the same novel, along with Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice, will find resonance in its brooding period romance.
