## Synopsis

Too Close (2021) is a British limited series created by Clara Salaman and broadcast on ITV1. Over three 48-minute episodes, forensic psychiatrist Dr Emma Robinson (Emily Watson) is assigned to assess whether Connie Mortensen (Denise Gough), a polished, well-off mother accused of a despicable crime, is sane enough to face the consequences. Emma's engine is a clinical puzzle: each interview peels back another layer of Connie's domestic life, her marriage, and the trauma and memory gaps that complicate her account, while the institutional pressures of a psychiatric hospital press in around her. Each episode is built from tense sessions, unsettling conversations and the slow reconstruction of what happened. The tone is claustrophobic and morally uneasy, with a restrained British sensibility that keeps suspicion simmering beneath the surface. Fans of The Silence and The Girl Before will find resonance in its psychological tension and its interest in how a respectable exterior can conceal something darker. The show is a compact, contained drama that rewards close attention and suits viewers who enjoy character-driven mysteries.
