## Synopsis

Great Pretender (2020-2024) is a Japanese animated crime comedy series created for Fuji TV and streaming on DMM TV, produced with WIT STUDIO and Production I.G. Supposedly the greatest swindler in Japan, Makoto Edamura (voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi) tries to con Laurent Thierry (voiced by Junichi Suwabe), a real world-class crook, and quickly discovers he has bitten off far more than he can chew. Cynthia Moore (voiced by Mie Sonozaki) and Abigail Jones (voiced by Natsumi Fujiwara) orbit the pair as the rivalry becomes a shifting alliance. Each episode is built around an elaborate scam, with marks, double crosses and sly reversals driving the story forward through a glamorous underworld shaped by mafia pressures and criminal organizations. The series spans two seasons across 27 episodes, moving as one continuing story in which the con artists trade deceptions and grow entangled. Its tone is witty and stylish, with a playful sense of criminal glamour that balances sharp humor against moments of danger and violence. Fans of Lupin the Third, Hustle and Catch Me If You Can will find resonance in its clever cons and charming rogues.
