## Synopsis

Ripley (2024) is a American limited series created by Steven Zaillian for Netflix, a psychological crime thriller adapted from the novel by Patricia Highsmith. Andrew Scott plays Tom Ripley, a grifter who is hired to coax a wealthy man's son, Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn), back home from Italy. Dakota Fanning plays Marge Sherwood, a figure whose presence presses on Ripley's double life. Across eight episodes of unhurried, elegant suspense, Ripley's pursuit of a comfortable life pulls him into a widening web of impersonation, lies, and escalating violence. Each episode builds dread through quiet scenes of sunlit Italian villas and the cool detachment of mid-century high society. Set in 1960s New York and Italy, the series is shot in black and white, giving its moral decay a stylized, noir restraint. Its tone is patient, suspenseful, and morally cold, with a slow-burn pacing that rewards close attention. Fans of The Talented Mr. Ripley, Fargo, and Dexter will find resonance in its charming amoral protagonist and its study of deceit. The overall effect is a stylish, unsettling portrait of a man who keeps choosing the next lie.
