## Synopsis

The Legend of El Cid (2020-2021) is a Spanish historical drama series created by José Velasco and Luis Arranz for Prime Video. Jaime Lorente plays Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, the Castilian nobleman and war hero whose courage and loyalty are tested as he moves through the court of eleventh-century Spain. Around him, Francisco Ortiz plays the ambitious Sancho II de Castilla, Alicia Sanz plays Urraca de Zamora, and Jaime Olías plays Alfonso VI de León, while Lucía Guerrero plays Jimena Díaz. The engine of the series is the struggle for position among rival kings and siblings, where every alliance is a bargain and every battlefield victory carries a political cost. Each episode mixes council chamber maneuvering with sword fights, sieges and ambushes across the Iberian kingdoms. Across one two-season run of ten episodes in total, the story stays serialized and tightly woven, carrying a period drama register that is grave, dramatic and violent. Its look draws on medieval Spanish history, and fans of Game of Thrones and Vikings will find resonance in its blend of warfare, dynastic rivalry and courtly scheming. The series was canceled after its second season, leaving its central storyline unfinished.
