## Synopsis

The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020-2021) is an American post-apocalyptic horror drama and spin-off of The Walking Dead, created for AMC by Scott M. Gimple and Matthew Negrete. Across two seasons, a group of teenagers raised in a walled, sheltered community is forced into the zombie-ravaged world they were taught to fear when a message pushes them out of the only home they have known. Their journey is a cross-country road story aimed at one man who might be able to save what remains of humanity, and each episode turns on the hazards of the road: hostile survivors, dwindling supplies and the ever-present threat of the undead. Iris and Hope Bennett, two sisters whose bond is tested by danger and by diverging choices, anchor a young ensemble. The tone is grim and tense, with relentless apocalyptic dread, graphic gore and a bleak sense of how little safety exists beyond the walls, though the restless energy of a coming-of-age adventure gives it momentum. Muddy, weathered landscapes and washed-out colour reinforce the sense of a world that has nearly ended. Fans of The Walking Dead, The 100 and Z Nation will recognise the mix of zombie peril and young survivors, though the series is more earnest and less polished than its parent.
