## Synopsis

Hernán (2019) is a Mexican historical drama series created by Amaya Muruzabal for Prime Video and Azteca Uno. Óscar Jaenada plays the conquistador Hernán Cortés, who arrives on the shores of what is now Mexico in the sixteenth century, while Ishbel Bautista plays Marina and Dagoberto Gama plays Moctezuma. The engine of the series is the tension between Cortés's ambition and the forces that stand against him: local powers, the mexica world he has entered, and rivals among the men who sailed with him. Each of its eight episodes, running about forty-eight minutes, builds the sense of a land and a people caught in a violent cultural collision. Set in 16th century Mexico during the age of discovery, it is a single-season limited series that carries the scale and gravity of a prestige historical epic. Its tone is grim, tense and atmospheric, with the weight of conquest pressing on every scene. Viewers who enjoy Apocalypto, The Mission and Chernobyl will find resonance in its historical scope and moral pressure.
