## Synopsis

The Twelve (2019-present) is a Belgian crime drama series created by Bert Van Dael, Sanne Nuyens and Roel Mondelaers for VRT 1, produced in Flemish and broadcast across three seasons so far. The story follows twelve ordinary people summoned for jury duty on a controversial murder case, with Frie Palmers (Maaike Cafmeyer) and Anton Bergman (Koen De Graeve) among the jurors whose private lives press against the verdict they must reach. Josse De Pauw as Ari Spaak and Johan Heldenbergh as Stefaan De Munck add weight to the courtroom and personal storylines. Each season builds around the deliberation room, where arguments, doubts and hidden loyalties surface between hearings and recesses, and the drama turns on what a group of strangers owes to a defendant and to the truth. The tone is tense and grounded, with a restrained, intimate atmosphere that lingers on faces and silences as much as on evidence. Fans of 12 Angry Men, Broadchurch and The Killing will find resonance in its moral unease, its ensemble of ordinary citizens and its patient procedural pressure, rendered in a naturalistic European style that rewards close attention.
