## Synopsis

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina (2020) is a Japanese anime series produced by C2C and aired on AT-X, adapted from a light novel. Its protagonist is Elaina, a young witch voiced by Kaede Hondo, who leaves home to see the wider world she has read about in books. Kana Hanazawa voices Flan, Tomoyo Kurosawa voices Saya, and Miho Okasaki voices Avilia, among other companions met along the road. The engine of the show is curiosity: Elaina drifts from one country to the next, and each episode is built around a self-contained encounter with a community or traveler whose situation is strange, bizarre, or emotional. Some stories are whimsical, others quietly sad, and each one leaves Elaina's world a little larger. The series runs for a single twelve-episode season, and its format is episodic rather than a single continuing plot. Its fantasy setting is an invented world of medieval-style kingdoms, towns and roads rather than any real historical era. The tone is gentle, reflective and calm, with moments of melancholy and dry humour, and its themes center on exploration, wonder and human connection. Viewers who enjoy Kino's Journey, Witch Hat Atelier and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End will find similar resonance in its contemplative wandering and small, humane fantasy vignettes.
