## Synopsis

Cagaster of an Insect Cage (2020) is a Japanese animated science fiction series produced by Studio KAI and distributed on Netflix, adapted from the manga of the same name. Set in the year 2125, thirty years after a disease called Cagaster has turned humans into huge insects and wiped out much of the planet's population, the story follows Kidou (voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya), a young pest exterminator working at the edge of a desert near the insect cage. When a dying man entrusts his daughter Ilie (voiced by Kana Hanazawa) to him and asks him to find the girl's mother, Kidou's task becomes a dangerous journey through a world where the infected must be exterminated. The engine of the series is survival: each stretch of the road brings new insect threats, moral strain over whether the infected can be saved, and fragile bonds between a hardened hunter and a child. Its tone is grim and atmospheric, with bleak dread, harsh combat, and a sense of humanity under siege. Presented as a single season of twelve episodes, it reads as a shonen-style action anime in the vein of Attack on Titan and Parasyte, appealing to viewers who like dark post-apocalyptic survival stories with a central relationship at their heart.
