## Synopsis

Shantaram (2022) is an American crime drama series created by Eric Warren Singer and Steve Lightfoot for Apple TV. Charlie Hunnam plays Lin Ford, an escaped Australian convict who flees to the teeming streets of 1980s Bombay to disappear. Hiding under a new identity, Lin works as a medic for the city's poor and neglected, while Shubham Saraf plays Prabaker 'Prabhu' Kharre, a street-smart local who becomes his guide and friend. Antonia Desplat plays Karla Saaranen, a woman whose presence complicates Lin's fragile new life. The engine of the story is Lin's need to stay hidden while his conscience pulls him into the city's slums, where every clinic visit brushes against police corruption, gangland pressure and the risk of exposure. The series is built around a single season of twelve hour-long episodes, a serialized arc in which each case widens the web of allegiances. Its atmosphere is sweaty, crowded and vivid, with moments of romance and courage set against violence and moral compromise. Its tone is sincere and melancholic, and its theme is redemption through service. Fans of Shogun, The Night Manager and Slumdog Millionaire will find resonance in its foreign-city epic scale, outsider perspective and romantic danger.
