## Synopsis

The Power (2023) is a US science fiction drama created by Naomi Alderman, Claire Wilson, Sarah Quintrell and Raelle Tucker for Prime Video, adapted from Alderman's novel. The premise is a world much like ours except that teenage girls suddenly gain the ability to electrocute people at will, a tingle in their collarbones that grows into a force capable of reversing centuries of male dominance. Toni Collette plays Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez, a politician who must reckon with the shifting balance of power, while Halle Bush plays Allie Montgomery, a young woman whose awakening pulls her into the new order, and Ria Zmitrowicz plays Roxy Monke, a teen whose world expands rapidly. Their stories are told in parallel, moving from London to Seattle, Nigeria and Eastern Europe, so the drama is built from intercut households, government briefings, street-level unrest and private fears about what the power will do to families. The single season of nine episodes runs at hour length and is serialized in a grounded, tense register, with a sharp, provocative edge. Its tone is bold and unsettling, touching on institutional fear, violence and cultural upheaval. Fans of The Handmaid's Tale, Heroes and Sense8 will find resonance in its global scope and speculative social allegory.
