## Synopsis

Dead Still (2020) is an Irish period mystery series created by John Morton for Acorn TV and RTÉ One. Michael Smiley plays Brock Blennerhasset, a memorial photographer who earns his living photographing the dead in Victorian Dublin, and Eileen O'Higgins plays Nancy Vickers, one of the principal figures drawn into the case alongside Kerr Logan as Conall Molloy and Jimmy Smallhorne as Cecil Carruthers. When a series of murders threatens to sully Blennerhasset's reputation, a tenacious detective pulls him into an investigation that reaches deep into the city's criminal underworld. Told across a single six-episode season of roughly forty-five minutes each, it is a self-contained limited series rather than a continuing saga. Its atmosphere is damp, shadowed and gently macabre, with a morbid deadpan humour that finds comedy in the grim trade of mourning portraits. The show is set in 1800s Dublin, moving through fog-bound streets, parlours of the dead and the rough alleys of the underworld. Fans of Ripper Street, Murdoch Mysteries and Penny Dreadful will find resonance in its period detail, offbeat lead and dark wit.
