## Synopsis

Chinese Paladin (2005) is a Chinese xianxia fantasy romance series created by Kwok-Lap Lee and produced by Tangren Media. Hu Ge plays the carefree swordsman Li Xiaoyao, who travels to Dream Island to find a cure for his ailing aunt and there falls in love with and marries Zhao Ling'er, played by Liu Yifei. After an attack strips him of his memory, Xiaoyao forgets her and returns home with her, and when she mysteriously disappears he sets out on a sprawling quest across immortal realms, uncovering hidden secrets along the way. Ady An, Eddie Peng and Esther Liu round out the principal cast as figures tangled in the shifting loyalties of the journey. The engine of the story is a romantic chase, with each episode built from a new locale, a new rival, and a new fragment of the past. Running for thirty-four episodes of roughly forty-six minutes in a single season, the show plays as one continuing story rather than a case of the week. Set in a mythic ancient China of sword sects, cults and fairy realms, it carries a wistful, melancholic register softened by romance and adventure. Fans of Legend of the Seeker, The Legend of Zu and Ashes of Love will find resonance in its blend of lovelorn longing and martial-arts spectacle.
