## Synopsis

Worzel Gummidge (2019-2021) is a British family comedy series created by Barbara Euphan Todd and written, directed and starring Mackenzie Crook for BBC One. Crook plays Worzel, a scarecrow who comes to life and wanders into the orbit of ordinary people, most notably the siblings Susan (India Brown) and John (Thierry Wickens). Their everyday lives in a quiet English village are disrupted as Worzel's peculiar habits and uncanny know-how draw them into small, escalating misadventures. The engine of each episode is the clash between Worzel's eccentric, sometimes foolish, pursuits and the practical concerns of a household trying to keep things normal, including the stern Mr Braithwaite (Steve Pemberton) and his wife (Rosie Cavaliero). The series spans only two seasons and five episodes, playing as a short, gentle run rather than a continuing epic. Its tone is whimsical, warm and playfully absurd, with a rural fairy-tale atmosphere in the spirit of classic British children's fantasy. Fans of Mary Poppins, The Worst Witch and the original 1979 Worzel Gummidge will find resonance in its gentle magic and its quirky, found-family charm.
